Sibu Walkabout 2007

Aside from being a wedding photographer in Sibu, we also went on a sight-seeing tour around town. At that time Kit Yan did not follow us, and my wife was 7 month into her pregnancy with Hui Yan.

7th December 2007

David and his parents came to the airport to pick us up. We stayed in Hotel Tanahmas, centrally located in Sibu town. Being so centre, we had no problem locating the important landmarks in Sibu, such as the Pintu Gerbang Sibu and the famous Tua Pek Kong temple.

Inconsiderate Malaysian drivers!

How many of you have ever encountered the hospitality of a Malaysian driver on the road? And I mean that in a sarcastic way. (I can almost see your hands raised up from way up here) I want to share with you what I have encountered, both as a victim, and as a bully myself!

Before I go on, allow me to give a comment to all of you Malaysian drivers out there, the proper way to overtake a slower vehicle in front of you. There are a few unwritten rules that, if broken, is considered a blatant violation of your personal rights as a road-tax paying road user in Malaysia.

Help the dogs in Pulau Ketam!

My heart sank when I saw the picture in the news. A thin fragile looking puppy clinging helplessly on a mangroove root!

A wet hungry looking puppy

A wet and hungry looking puppy

How can the people of Pulau Ketam do that to such helpless creatures? I can understand their predicament, their logic that the island “ain’t big enough for the both of us”. Throwing them on the deserted island seems the easiest and most economical way to dispose of them. I’m sure that there are no SPCA in Pulau Ketam!

But do they even think of the consequences? Dogs are not naturally good at climbing these awkwardly shaped mangroove roots. Their paws are not made to withstand such salty soil. I’m sure that they will get in a pretty big mess in that island. Canibalism, survival of the fittest, nature’s cruelest ways to ensure that the dogs live a long suffering life, IF, they survive at all.

I do not know any way that I can help. (I’m a cheapskate, don’t ask me to donate money! :P ) so I guess the best way is to spread the news around. Please help this dogs as much as you can! Click on the picture above to learn more about their plight.

I have just sold my DSLR!!

Whoaaa…. talk about efficiency! In less than 24 hour since I have spread the news of my intention to sell the camera, the camera is sold!

Sold the entire thing for RM1100 to a nice gentleman who came all the way from Shah Alam. I hope the camera finds a good place to stay now.

I am now officially camera-less. Except for the camera phone, I don’t have any cameras at home, not even a decent point-and-shooter!

Well at least now I have money to buy milk powder for the kids. That can last me for, oh, 3 months! :P

I want to sell my DSLR camera

Yes it’s true, I am planning to sell off my trusty old 350D. It’s been with me through thick and thin, through a lot of adventure to a lot of trips. I blame it on “technological refresh” that forces me to upgrade my camera to catch up with my skill. I hate to admit it, but I have outgrown my camera. This is a good thing really. It means that I have learnt a lot from this camera, and I need to move on.

Yes, that also means that I want to upgrade my camera. I have not got my hands on any cameras yet, but the 40D looks very possible. Again, nothing is solid yet. I am just throwing news out, just to test the water. Anyway here is what the spec of my camera looks like:

Canon 350D with EF-S 18-55 kit lens with box, charger, original softwares, cables, manual, neck-strip, 2 original NB-2LH batteries and original Canon battery grip BG-E3. Perfect working condition 8/10. No more warranty. Would like to sell it as a set for RM1350. Free camera bag, 8 GB card and UV filter for kitlens. Price is negotiable. COD in Seri Kembangan.

I attach in here a very rough picture of the camera, for lack of a proper camera to take its own picture:

Please excuse the lousy photos. It was taken with my camera phone.

*Sigh …* what to do? Need the money for my kid’s milk powder and diapers…. :(

Update: The camera has been sold barely 24 hours after I have posted it online.
