Movies weekend

I watched two movies over the weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I had higher hopes for GOTG, and I was let down. Even IMDB rated it higher than TMNT. But it was rather boring, so I’m not going to write about that.

Then I watched TMNT. I had expected it to be a slug-fest like Michael Bay’s previous movie, Transformers 4; all bangs and no stories. I was right about the bangs, but it was miles better than either Transformers or GOTG.

First off, there is the typical Michael Bay signature everywhere, like the lens filter thing that polarizes lights horizontally. It’s not a bad thing, but it gets old after some time. The turtles are funny, and they look very real. After about 30 minutes into the show, I totally forgot that they are computer generated.

But the story line is a bit too predictable. And there are a lot of scenes that are just too illogical, like why does April puts the rat and the turtles into the sewer if she likes them so much? Why don’t she just bring them home? Or how conveniently adrenaline is found on a machine that is supposed to suck blood out, not put liquids back in. Also you may notice that the final fight sequence was so obviously computer generated, much like the cut-scenes in a Final Fantasy game. The character Vern was so unnecessary in the movie, why don’t they let April drive the truck instead? But if you are like me who is just looking to be entertained, all those are not a big issue. In fact I thoroughly enjoyed myself there. Looking forward to TMNT2!

Ohhh, how can I leave without a proper closing. So here’s the song from the movie, Shell Shocked, which is pretty slick! Turn up the bass Mikey!
