I have got a strange request from my colleague. She just came back from Hong Kong and she has taken lots of pictures in Disneyland. However to her dismay, in some important pictures her eyes were closed! She asked me, can I make her eyes open again? Have a look at this:
Ouch! And some more, it’s the picture with Minnie and Mickey! I thought, the best way to fix this is for her to provide pictures of her with her eyes open and superimpose it.
This should do it!
Then I select the picture with the eyes open:
Go to the target picture and press Ctrl – V. Don’t worry about the location. Notice that it will create a new layer:
Hide the original layer, select around the pasted eyes.
Unhide the original layer. Right click on selection and select Free Transform
This is the toughest part. Approximate where you should paste it over the original picture. You can move, resize or rotate the pasted eyes.
After that I choose dissolve to the layer. It’s all a matter of choice, but I find using dissolve gives better result on my next step.
Select the eraser tool and set the opacity to about 20 to 40%. I notice this produces better effect than using normal as I have mentioned. The normal will just give you more transparent dots.
Tweak the opacity. This time I use normal as the blending mode. Adjust to taste.
And walla! The masterpiece is finished!
The task can get a bit tricky if there are no similar pictures to be superimposed on. In this case, I used a very extreme method. In another picture, her eyes were not completely closed, but two little slit were all that was left when the picture was taken:
In this situation, I used the liquify function to push her eyes bigger. Not a very satisfying result, but it’s not immediately apparent in such a low resolution file. Hmm … wonder how it will be in my DSLR?
hahahah this is cool 😀
