Oh goody! Firefox is finally coming, I’m so excited about it! Why shouldn’t I be? Firefox3 is a better browser than its predecessors and certainly much better than Internet Explorer 7. I know, I’ve been using it in my latest Ubuntu installation since April. The thing that immediately caught my attention was the speed at which it starts up. Even with my usual add-ons, it’s ready for surfing in less than 3 seconds. Well, at least on my Ubuntu that is.
There are also other subtle enhancements to make your surfing that much of faster and more convenient, but some are just UI changes that needs a little bit of getting used to. For example, look at the back / forward buttons in Firefox 2:
…. and this is the view from the Firefox3 browser in my Ubuntu machine:
I don’t know if the difference is because of the different operating system, but if your eyes are sharp enough, you would have noticed the missing little downward arrow next to the backward button in Firefox3 that shows the history of your sites. Nothing to be alarmed, it’s just that the arrows have been merged together next to the forward button. I don’t miss the separate little arrows, in fact I thought the change is appropriate. These and some other subtle changes really makes the difference between what defines a good browser and what is always trying to play catch up. (You Microsofties hear that? Fuck you Windows!)
I have pledged myself to download the browser on 17th June 2008. That’s the coming Tuesday. Hmmm …. I wonder if that is Malaysian time or Meridian Time? Seems that they also plan to set the Guinness World Record for the most number of downloads in 24 hours. Sounds like a world record attempt that I can join!
Meanwhile, click on the banners below for more info, and help download Firefox. You may also help pledge to bring Malaysia up to the world map!
I have always wanted to put this little logo of the cute fox into my side panel, but it’s too big. But I absolutely love it!
