Windows 8 Pro – Too legit to quit!

I’ve decided to come clean. I can’t help it, Windows is so cheap, only USD 39 for a licensed legit copy! So I made the plunge, downloaded the Windows Upgrade Assistant, determined that my PC hardware is good to go, and I clicked buy. And everything else just fell into places.

Windows 8 Pro dual screen goodness!

There were some problem with the installation initially. It complained that the key is only valid for upgrades, not a clean install, which I did. But a quick search on google showed how that can be fixed.

Then there is the Metro UI. You either like it, or hate it to the bones. I hated it. Where the hell is the calculator? Where is the shutdown button? I can’t find the Control Panel!! While very much an eye-candy, Metro UI is more suitable for finger swiping on touch screens. To get to all your stuffs, you basically have to dig thru menus. One quick solution though, once you found them, pin them to the Start screen. I pinned the “Sleep” button onto the Start screen by using a DIY shortcut.

Overall it was a good experience. I even shared on Facebook this particular picture and I mentioned that I loved it and I am a Windows fanboy now. True, I now have ZERO urge to buy a Macbook already after seeing the fabulous Asus Zenbook and testing Windows 8 Pro myself. As was expected, my status generated a lot of comments from my friends, both positive and bad. One Apple fanboy accused me that I did not properly use a MacOSX to start this unfair comparison.

But it’s all good. After using DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP,  MacOSX 10.6 using hackintosh hardware, and finally Windows 7 Ultimate, I can safely say that RM120 for an original licensed copy is definitely worth every penny! Feel liberating to be using legitimate copy. You should buy one too!
