Random Ramblings – Highways of Malaysia

1. Automatic car are useful in city drivings because of the stop-and-go situations involved. But they are getting more and more useful in highways. 😉

2. Why do we use the highways? What is the basic thing that you expect in return of paying a hefty sum at the bloodsucking toll booths? The convenience, the time you save, the assurance that you will arrive IN TIME for that 8 am meeting in JB. What if you cannot get that? What if you are stuck in a stupid jam from KL to Ipoh for 5 hours? Who will pay for the lost of time and opportunity? PLUS should give us a rebate for every hour that we are delayed in our journey!

3. I agree with those who drives in the emergency lanes. “If I do not drive in those lanes, somebody else would anyway. It might as well be me.”

4. Speed limits are only beneficial to the police who radar-scans us.

5. Elsewhere in the world highways are used to divert traffic from a heavily congested area and maybe make a little profit, just enough for general maintenance of the highway. Malaysian highways are designed from a profitability point of view.

That said, safety on the road is still necessary. Make sure you are in physical fit condition before you undertake that 300 km exodus back to your hometown. Have a safe trip everyone and SELAMAT HARI RAYA!

Malaysia F1 Team? What a joke!

BWUUUAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

I can only afford an uncontrollable insane laugh! Come on Malaysia! Not another one of your tasteless jokes! Can this be one of your publicity stunt again? I mean, seriously, what do you expect to put in your machine? A 1.6 litre turbo CAMPRO engine? Well, here’s news for you! CAMPRO engines are lousy, inefficient and unsafe! Just the other day, a poor young mother burnt to her death when her Gen-2 fitted with the CAMPRO got hit on the engine compartment and caught fire! And this is not the first time I heard of such news. And don’t get me started on the potential driver. The son of a big-shot. Ring a bell? The last Malaysia F1 joker driver was also a son of someone influential who pushed him into the game, and look at the mess he has made for Malaysia!

For you who bought Proton cars (my poor self included), it’s time you stop supporting Proton and start buying from a REAL car company.

If this is not Muhibah, then what is?

1. I saw this malay kid, wearing a t-shirt with all chinese wordings there. It’s a club or something of a chinese school. How did he get to wear that t-shirt? Could be given by a chinese close friend, or maybe he studies in that school? Who know….

2. During the ghost month festival, there was a lot of prayers and offerings everywhere. I saw this temporary prayer altar built right next to a buzzing Bazaar Ramaddan. No complaints from either parties.

3. A chinese colleague of mine has a Malay husband. So naturally she celebrates Hari Raya and Chinese New Year. Her sister is married to a Christian Indian. So she celebrates Christmas and Deepavali! So her family celebrates all four major festivities in Malaysia!

4. A crazy Malay dude of mine here in the office suddenly sprang into a Teocheow song out of no reason! =P I don’t even understand Teocheow!

So you tell me, is “Race” needed in government forms? Are we really that divided? Is the cow-head incident in Shah Alam necessary?

This makes me think, are politicians still playing the racial cards to their own advantage? Are political parties that are segregated into race still relevant?

Happy 52nd Anniversary Malaysia. May you still have many more peaceful anniversaries ahead, for my two girls’ sake.

Disney Pixar UP (3D)!

I can’t believe that I did this! I watched UP again for the second time this weekend! Yeap, went to Midvalley with Mei Fen, just the two of us, to catch the 3D version of the movie!

I told Mei Fen how good the movie was, and I told her that I wanted to go watch it with her again. She didn’t reject my offer. She wants to go to Midvalley for her facial treatment anyway. So when she went there to have her facial at 12 pm, I went to buy two tickets for the show. Cost me RM34 for the two tickets, just for the 3D experience!

Was the extra ringgits spent on the 3D worth it? All I can say is that it is indeed very different, much better than watching it in flat 2 dimensional.

Just came back from IOI Mall after watching this particular movie with Kit Yan. The movie was good, but the adventure with Yan Yan to IOI Mall Puchong was even greater! Anyone with a very hyperactive 3-year-olds can testify to that!

Yan Yan woke up quite early today morning. Therefore when I was driving to IOI Mall at about 10:30 am, she fell asleep on the car! I was thinking to myself, how can she hold herself until the movie? Luckily as soon as the car parks, she immediately woke up.

Ubuntu boot partition is full!

Arrghhhhh!! This happens rather frequently, caused by the release of a better and more bug-free Linux kernel. This is a good thing actually, but its side effect is exactly what this post is trying to solve. Your boot partition grows, and the next thing you know, you can’t upgrade to a newer version of the kernel anymore!

Good thing about the internet is that you can find almost any information you want. I can always find the solution anytime, but I am lazy. This post is more a reminder to myself rather than another explanation to what is happening.

Are you Farmville crazy?

Posted: 22nd August 2009 by Jacky Yong in Silly me

A lot of my Facebook friends are crazy about Farmville (FV) now. I don’t normally play games in Facebook. But I got myself caught in FV real bad. I find myself waking up in the middle of the night suddenly realizing that I forgot to harvest that crop! Urrgghhh!!! Farmville is ruining my life, and I’m loving it!

Farmville is  actually still in Beta mode as of the point of my writing. There’s still a lot of locked features that I’m sure will be revealed as time goes by. That said, there is already a lot that has been achieved since the first day I first played Farmville. Previously the maximum farm size was only 16×16, no matter how high a level you are. Just today I am now able to upgrade to 20×20. Then previously there was no tool to help you plow the land, you must do it one measly square by square. Now there is the tractor tool. Just today I bought a pink tractor. Haven’t really try that yet, wonder what’s the big deal with the pink tractor, other than its colour.

And to deal with the myriads of crops and trees and animals in FV, some people even go to the extend of creating a spreadsheet just to keep track! The spreadsheet list down all the possible items, its buy, harvest, sale value etc, so that you can judge for yourself which gives you the best “return of investment”. Pretty technical, but that is  the route that I find myself taking.

For those who might be interested, click on this:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=rrFQP5AOGa4yUZCL-1VLUyg&gid=2

It is updated rather frequently, but I doubt they have the pink tractor yet.

Anyway, if you’re interested to know what the fuss is all about, head on down to Facebook and start farming! That reminds, my crops will die if I don’t harvest them soon! Adios!

Edit 28 Aug 2009: The pink tractor? Contrary to logic, it doesn’t add to your total fuel. Meaning if you can only plow 150 plots with one tractor, you can still ONLY plow 150 plots even if you have 2 or 3 tractors. PLUS, your refueling rate does not seem to increase as well, so that means the pink tractor is just as vain as Paris Hilton!

PC Fair Chicks

I love PC Fair. Not because of the PC parts at bargain price (sometimes prices at Low Yat can be much lower than in PC Fair!), but because of the babes. This year I did not intend to go there. I had nothing to buy in particular. But I went anyway, Cai Hong wanted to buy a 32 GB USB drive.

Enough talk, I’m sure you wanna have a look at the babes too, doncha?

I am being conned

Posted: 28th July 2009 by Jacky Yong in Silly me

Yeap, I am being conned, live, as I am writing this blog. It all happened last week, when I got an unanimous call from a lady with this thick southern China mandarin accent. She claims that she is from a company based in HK named Hong Ji. She gave me this coupon number AG9826 that I can use to gain entry into some sort of event in KLCC. Of course, I knew that was some kind of hoax, and didn’t even bother to go.

This week they began their full fledged attack. Knowing fully well that their victims will never turn up, they called me up again yesterday. Their story was that my number turned up as number 3 in their lucky draw, and I won HKD330,000! You will have to be crazy to fall for a trap like that. I knew it was a hoax, but I did not hang up. I continued to dig. I came to know their office number is 03-27727300, and the lady who called me up, her name is Mei Ling with the number 016-4731132. Go ahead, call them up. Mei Ling said that the money now sits in Hang Seng Bank in Hong Kong, and that I have two options. One is to go personally to Hong Kong to the bank to claim this money. Of course, their victim will most probably not go there to do that. Which leaves them with only the option to do a telegraphic transfer. I gave them my phoney name, phoney IC number and phoney Maybank account number. Let them work their magic.

Today Mei Ling just called. I just hanged up the phone. They said that Hang Seng Bank in HK is ready to transfer the money to me. They asked me to call the bank in Hong Kong at the number 00852-30658212 to speak to the officer there. There is a temporary account that my money now resides in, and they mentioned the account number is 0012-484-1001. The password to the account is 9826, same as the number of the coupon earlier. Upon calling the number, they asked me to press 2 for Cantonese, then 1, followed by 9. After verifying my identity, I will be able to get my money by 12 noon today!

What a fake!

Guys, if you are reading this, you may want to call them up. I’m too busy (but free enough to update this blog! 😛 hehehehe) Anyway my fake identity number is:

Name: Liang Han Wai
IC : 780916-09-7979
Maybank Account Number : 1080-4547-3884

Go ahead, knock yourselves out!
