What I’m thinking ……

Posted: 26th September 2008 by Jacky Yong in Current Affairs

…… is that Malaysia’s fuel price is not dependant on the price of oil in the world, but rather, on how much the people hates the government! 😛

Of late, oil prices in the world has actually increased instead of decreasing as what Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Datuk Shahrir Samad has wanted us to believe. So why the decrease? I can only think of it as a way to mellow down the sentiment of the rakyat against BN nowadays. So when the BN gets lesser and lesser popular, prices of fuel actually goes down!

That’s Malaysia for you folks!

The NGV experience

I thought I’d tell you what it feels like to be an NGV user, apart from the obvious decrease in monthly expenditure on vehicle fuel. Especially my experience in the many refueling stations that I have patroned over the duration of my NGV usage.

As I mentioned previously, I work in Cyberjaya. Therefore I frequent the Petronas in Cyberjaya the most. Most of the stations are the same, they employ some foreign worker (most likely a Bangladeshi) to do the work. They do most of the manual labour of attaching the hose to your car, turning on and off the valve, and getting the money from us customers.

Since the range of one full tank of refueling is only about 190 km, I almost always have to go refuel at very regular intervals, sometimes once a day if I go to a lot of places. Let me share with you how a normal refueling process go.

In a perfect world……

Posted: 18th September 2008 by Jacky Yong in Computers

In a perfect world, a car would only cost as much as the materials used to produce it. No other excise duty is imposed upon it.

In a perfect world, I only work from 9 am to 5 pm daily, without worrying whether or not I will need to work extra hours.

In a perfect world, everybody who did wrong will get their due. This includes corrupt politicians who murders young Mongolian ladies.

In a perfect world, people of all races live in harmony. Nobody will be judged by their colour of their skin, or the language that they speak, or the religion that they preach. This will also mean no special privileges for any race. Everyone shall be judged by their virtue and their ability.

In a perfect world, there would be no corruption, no misuse of power, no swindling of the tax payer’s money, and no wastage of fund.

In a perfect world, nobody gets sick, and nobody dies in pain. The population of the world will not increase, and human will not need to destroy the earth in order to survive.

In a perfect world, all animals and their natural habitat co-exists peacefully alongside human.

In a perfect world, there will be no suffering at all in this world. Everyone will have proper food and clothings, and everyone will have their own freedom.

In a perfect world, the leaders are elected in the interest of the people, not by favouritism or handed-down from a previous leader.

….. but then again, we do not live in a perfect world, do we?

Adventure in Perak 2008

I needed a break. All these work in the office is burning me out. Despite a tight schedule requesting me to stay back in the office on a non-working Saturday and Monday last week (30th August and 1st September over the National Holiday), I went outstation anyway.

It was a much-needed holiday that I could not forget. There was a lot of adventure for us. First was the fact that it was only us three on the road. As usual, poor Hui Yan was left in KL again. 🙁

We initially planned to stay overnight in Au’s place on Saturday night. Then both my family and his will go together to Damai Laut on Sunday morning. The fella last minute fong fei kei. So sudden change of plan again. The two rooms were converted to one room with 2 nights.

We started our journey to Perak at about 10 am. We were pleasantly surprised that there was not a hint of traffic jam anywhere. Finally, the 3-lane highway must have worked!

Since we were not rushing for time, we decided to go where we have never went before. There was this hot spring near Sungkai that Mei Fen has heard of. We went to check it out. The RM10 entry ticket was quite expensive for such an ulu place, but it was still okay.

Anwar won, now what?

I follow gleefully the road to success for the once-down-but-not-out politician Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI). First the butt-fuck case during the Mahadthir era back in 1998. I remember vividly that it was only days after the 41st’s Merdeka celebration. He was charged and trialled, for what we all know now that is a slanderous allegation against him to throw him from power. He was barred from any political involvement until 14th April 2008. A date that is obviously noted by Badawi, as he has decided to dissolve the Parliament and hold the General Election earlier, on 8th March 2008. But alas, the people wanted a change, as evident in the result of the election. BN lost most of its stronghold, Selangor, Perak and Penang. Sami also lost, a fact most welcomed by the rakyat, myself included.

But now the man is back! And he is obviously a wiser and more influential than ever before. After his convincing win late last night, he has officially now an MP, and will be sworn into the Parliament this Thursday, and will also be in the session during the tabling of the 2009 Budget! I can imagine the furore that this will create and the chill in the spine for the BN goons. Badawi would have pissed in his pants, Mahadthir would never have dreamt that this would happen to him in his lifetime! Gosh, this makes for an incredible movie moment doesn’t it? 😛

Now that Anwar has come into the picture, the people are expecting a lot to happen in the next few months, if not weeks. DSAI has promised to take over the government by the end of September. Let’s just wait and see if that happens.

To be honest, I too wish for DSAI to come into power. The BN croonies has been in power for much too long. Corruption and malpractise are happening everywhere. The police force are a pain-in-the-ass; instead of protecting the people, the prey on them, wielding fear to subdue them. The public transport system is a joke, and there are plenty of white elephants all over the country. Proton is getting protection for 20 full years and they still product shit cars. Malaysia has grown into a sissy country, and a lot of its best brains are migrating away. And they are still not doing anything about it. Don’t get me started about the education system!

I am also confident of DSAI’s ability in managing a country, comparing among the oppositions. I mean come on, has Nik Aziz run a country before? Has Lim Guan Eng or Lim Kit Siang run a country before? Lim Guan Eng may be experienced in running a small island in Malaysia, but until now Penang is still recuperating from the switch over from Koh, which in my opinion is not that smooth. DSAI on the other hand was Malaysia Finance Minister in 1991 and a Deputy Prime Minister in 1993. He is a fully qualified person to run a country. He is also the only Malaysian ever to make it to Times Magazine’s list of the world 100 most influential people! If any person is to run a government, it’s him!

There are however opinions of DSAI that I cannot really agree on, especially on the issue of subsidized petrol. He wants it to be fixed at RM2.40 per litre, I say that this is not practical. Malaysia cannot live in the false sense of real commodity price in the world. It only depletes the real feel of consumer price index, and thus our income level will forever be stuck in a low margin. Our products becomes lesser quality, and thus lesser competitive in the open world market. I am no economist, but I cannot agree of DSAI’s point on this. However there is one thing that I can always agree on, and this has been mentioned by our beloved BN-Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin, bocor (leakage)! It happens everywhere, our court house ceiling, our education fund, our income-tax money, our petrol money that we subsidize.

So there, I will ask this question to our PKR hero, what happens next? We chose you because we expect these BN to be gone. And I do expect results this time!

I have promised that I will write an eulogy in remembrance of my old faithful, my green Iswara ADP 7466. Affectionately known as “The Green Monster”, this car really brought back many years of memories. This is going to be a long write-up, one that took me months since I bought the replacement car, the Toyota Altis in March 2008. So here goes.

My last road tax paid for the Iswara, EVER!

This is another one of my post to denounce the claim by Citibank that they are the “Best Consumer Internet Bank 2007”.

Stoopid Shittybank

This is not the first time they piss me off. This time, they went just too damn far. Allow me to give you a chronology of what has transpired:

~ 25th June 2008 : Citibank found a fraudulent transaction with my Visa and tried to call me. Got miss call because I was busy. Never call me again. They proceeded to terminate my card without my consent!

Kit and Yeoh in HUKM

Remember Kit Lau? I had a portfolio shot of her almost exactly one year ago. When Wei Ching called for a second shot of her with a friend, I jumped at the chance to take her pictures again. Initially I could not confirm my availability due to the fact that I might be in Singapore at that time. Fortunately at that time it was a low peak season at the office, so I was able to meet them. It was in the garden in front of HUKM.

Ms Yeoh, Kit’s friend was quite awkward in front of my camera initially. However she has this set of great looking eyes, that gave idea to the eyes in my photo album theme.
