Ubuntu’s latest incarnation just came out. Just like clock-work, it never fails to meet its release target date. The latest to come out of Canonical is version 8.04, exactly on 24th April 2008 just as planned. The main feature this time around is the LTS badge. LTS means Long Term Support, which means that the desktop version will be supported for 3 years, while the server version up to 5 years.
I waited quite a while before I installed the Hardy Heron on my PC. Until yesterday to be exact. No glitch. The installation was eventless and boring. Ubuntu got itself installed in less than 30 minutes. But there is a difference this time. I am dual-booting, not using virtualization as what I did before. The VirtualBox that I used previously encountered problems accessing the DVD-Writer, and also tonnes of other hardware incompatibility problems. That’s why I had to let XP invade my world again. *Sigh*, nothing’s perfect it seems.
Let’s see how Windows is doing in the other corner. SP3 is touted to be the next biggest release for you XP guys. It’s scheduled to be released on 29th April 2008. But when the day came, Microsoft suddenly had the cold feet and pulled it off the selves on the 11th hour. So typical of Microsoft.
I rest my case.
