A great sense of closure

I know I shouldn’t be feeling this, but this is exactly how I felt like when I killed that dog!

Yes a deep sense of closure, an inner peace, on top of the scream of the owner of the dog and my wife sitting behind me. I must sound like a sick sadistic dog killer when my wife told me that its eyeballs got dislodged from its skull! Oh yeah, it sounds bad!

One year ago, I had a bad bite on my foot by a dog back in Sagil. That caused me to walk with a limp for a few months and even when I went to Bangkok later with my wife! Stupid owner of the dog didn’t even bother to own up to his dog and paid me the hospital bills. Read the rest of this entry »

Hui Yan dozing off

Hui Yan has always been very stubborn, nothing can stop her from doing what she wants. Same goes if she wants to play the iPad, nothing can stop her from doing so, not even sleep!

I accidentally pressed the stop button on the video recorder in this first part. The second part should be much longer…. Read the rest of this entry »

I got this idea after watching the mythbuster guy showing it.

And I thought it would be funny to show it to the kids and have a laugh over it!

P1 has top up feature!

This is something interesting ….. something popped out onto my browser this morning without me realizing. I thought it was a damn spam, but it turns out it was P1! It says that my limit has been breached and I should consider paying a small amount to increase the limit!

P! Thanks you

P1 Thanks you for your over-usage

I’d say that this is certainly a welcomed strategy. Instead of throttling us like mad, they should give us the option to give a bit more to have my limit extended. And the package looks interesting enough, 2 GB for only RM10 during this promotional period!

Purchase more gigabytes!

Purchase more gigabytes here!

This works out to be the exactly the same price that I am paying now per gigabyte, but it won’t be such a good deal when the promotion is over. It’s valid for 30 days, more than enough for me though.

Edit one day later : I burnt through all the extra 2 Gigabytes that I purchased in less than 24 hours! That’s how “efficient” I am …. ahem ….

Broadband your life!

Unifi has come to my area! YES! Despite calls to boycott its service, I have made my own research and have decided that Unifi is the right broadband service for me.

My journey in getting myself wired to the internet harks back to the days of Jaring and TM dialup. For those of you old enough to remember, you would definitely be familiar with the whirring dialing tone of the damn phone trying to make a connection with the server. Frustrating it may be, we endured it because it was the only way to get ourselves online back then.

I used Streamyx when I moved to my home in Seri Kembangan. I still remembered that the account actually belonged to my ex-colleague Jayce who wanted to move to a new place and couldn’t terminate the account because it was still quite new. So I took over her Streamyx account, which was what I wanted anyway. It was the 512 kbps package with unlimited download. Sure, it kept disconnecting, and the speed leaves a lot to desire. But I tried Maxis broadband before and it was much worse! Believe me, at that time, Streamyx still rules!

Not-so-Great Day

Went to watch the much hyped Great Day, 天天好天, a movie directed by the same person who gave you Tiger WooHoo last year. This 天天好天 movie has a lot to live up to, since it features so many of the previous actors and actresses from Tiger WooHoo. There was also a lot of so-called “good reviews” in My FM (very biased, don’t you think so?).

I went to watch it in Alamanda Putrajaya with my wife and two monkees. I went through all the trouble of making sure the kids are properly fed, rested and clothed so that they are comfy inside the cinema. The cinema hall itself is small, but it was surprisingly well kept. It was clean and does not smell like most other cinemas I have been to.

Genuine vs Fake Toyota Long Life Coolant

Malaysia memang boleh! Anything and everything that can be faked, has been faked! DVD’s, Croc shoes, LV bags, Nokia batteries, Ringgit notes, including the topic of my blog entry, engine coolant!

There are probably counterfeit Honda and Proton coolants as well in the market, probably from the same factory too! Just the label and packaging change only mah, and probably the colouring agent too! The profit is just too high; RM21.90 for a bottle of original Toyota coolant!

Enough talk, have a look at these pictures:

See the difference?

See the difference? Top is genuine

iGot an iPad

WHOOWEEE!!!! I can now claim to be ahead of most of my friends here when it comes to technology! I just got myself an Apple iPad 2 weeks ago!

It was really an easy decision, Apple came out with Malaysia’s own iPad range that surprised everyone by being a lot cheaper than iPads brought in from overseas! That really hurt a lot of early adopters who paid more than RM3000 for their machines!

I got the iPad 32 GB wifi version, without the 3G. The reason why I got the wifi version was because I do not foresee myself surfing the internet wherever I go. I already have a wifi at home, so I’ll just surf at home, or when there is wifi available. If ever in the future I have a need to access to the internet wherever I may be, I’ll just subscribe to one of those packages with mifi modems. And why 32 GB? Because it’s more than16 GB, and it’s affordable at less than RM2000. (RM1849 to be exact, not including the screen protector and the cover)

mePad

mePad, it's relative size compared to my Microsoft PC. You can see the camera connection kit at the background

So how does it feel like in operation? Those who are already familiar with the iPhones will find themselves perfectly at ease using this machine. The touch screen is sensitive to the slightest swipe and touch. I would have been afraid to dent it by pressing it too hard at the screen (like the LG K900 phone I used to review), but the iPad felt secure and tough. The screen feels solid and looks like it can take a beating before falling apart. In fact, my colleague dropped it on a rock once, facing down! It survived the fall without a scratch on its screen. But then again it was protected with a screen protector. It really shows how wonderfully solid this piece of tablet is.

I drove a BMW 320d

Few dreams can become reality, at least for me. But today, it happened! It has always be my dream to drive a BMW. Today I did not just drive it. I trashed it “kau-kau”. It was the BMW demonstration on Dynamic Stability Control (DSC for short) for a lucky few members of the public. I saw it on Paul Tan’s blog earlier and I tried my luck calling in. Unfortunately the slots that I am free were already taken and I had to be put on their waiting list. But as luck has it, 2 hours before the session they called to inform me that I can come to my preferred time slot!

I had to bring Kit Yan there, else she will scream at the sight of me leaving. So I went there with Kit Yan in the Altis. Damn I wish I could go there in the Wira, wonder what their reaction is upon seeing me driving such a fucked up car! =P

Migrate from OpenX to DoubleClick

Posted: 18th November 2010 by Jacky Yong in Computers
Both OpenX and DoubleClick are advertisement serving engines that you can plugin to your site for managing and serving ads. They are both very popular ad-serving solutions, but recently my company decided to migrate all their ad management from OpenX to DoubleClick. What triggered the decision?
Actually the management has been meaning to migrate to DoubleClick for a long time, but the last straw was when there was a huge security issue of someone trying to compromise our website. A quick patch was all that was needed to fix the issue, but it sure scared the hell out of us all!
