I know, I know. Photography in Singapore is not new to readers of my blog. I have been at it since many aeons ago with my old Canon A70. This new batch of photos is a cumulative work of all my past experiences combined together. I especially like HDR, therefore you will see a lot of HDR pictures in this round.

Compare these pictures taken almost 2 years apart of the St Andrew’s Cathederal.

Today in History

4th June. Today, a very important piece of history happened in the world. But sadly the very people who was supposed to know this history, has been denied knowledge of it.

Excerpt from Baidu's History Search

Excerpt from Baidu's History Search

I can’t read chinese, but I know one important year is missing.

1989

It’s a sad truth, the people do not know the truth, nor will they be able to know the truth. It really does not concern me personally, but as a mortal, we deserve to know the reason WHY we are here now, so that we may know where we need to go in the future.

My hats off for them…..

Bird’s Nest – Is it worth it?

Posted: 3rd June 2009 by Jacky Yong in Computers

I got a chance to see what a real bird’s nest looks and taste like. Of course, this is not a photographic opportunity to be missed! Especially since this handful of bird’s nest already cost us RM50!

Sibu Walkabout 2007

Posted: 31st May 2009 by Jacky Yong in Photography, Silly me

Aside from being a wedding photographer in Sibu, we also went on a sight-seeing tour around town. At that time Kit Yan did not follow us, and my wife was 7 month into her pregnancy with Hui Yan.

7th December 2007

David and his parents came to the airport to pick us up. We stayed in Hotel Tanahmas, centrally located in Sibu town. Being so centre, we had no problem locating the important landmarks in Sibu, such as the Pintu Gerbang Sibu and the famous Tua Pek Kong temple.

Inconsiderate Malaysian drivers!

How many of you have ever encountered the hospitality of a Malaysian driver on the road? And I mean that in a sarcastic way. (I can almost see your hands raised up from way up here) I want to share with you what I have encountered, both as a victim, and as a bully myself!

Before I go on, allow me to give a comment to all of you Malaysian drivers out there, the proper way to overtake a slower vehicle in front of you. There are a few unwritten rules that, if broken, is considered a blatant violation of your personal rights as a road-tax paying road user in Malaysia.

Help the dogs in Pulau Ketam!

My heart sank when I saw the picture in the news. A thin fragile looking puppy clinging helplessly on a mangroove root!

A wet hungry looking puppy

A wet and hungry looking puppy

How can the people of Pulau Ketam do that to such helpless creatures? I can understand their predicament, their logic that the island “ain’t big enough for the both of us”. Throwing them on the deserted island seems the easiest and most economical way to dispose of them. I’m sure that there are no SPCA in Pulau Ketam!

But do they even think of the consequences? Dogs are not naturally good at climbing these awkwardly shaped mangroove roots. Their paws are not made to withstand such salty soil. I’m sure that they will get in a pretty big mess in that island. Canibalism, survival of the fittest, nature’s cruelest ways to ensure that the dogs live a long suffering life, IF, they survive at all.

I do not know any way that I can help. (I’m a cheapskate, don’t ask me to donate money! 😛 ) so I guess the best way is to spread the news around. Please help this dogs as much as you can! Click on the picture above to learn more about their plight.

I have just sold my DSLR!!

Whoaaa…. talk about efficiency! In less than 24 hour since I have spread the news of my intention to sell the camera, the camera is sold!

Sold the entire thing for RM1100 to a nice gentleman who came all the way from Shah Alam. I hope the camera finds a good place to stay now.

I am now officially camera-less. Except for the camera phone, I don’t have any cameras at home, not even a decent point-and-shooter!

Well at least now I have money to buy milk powder for the kids. That can last me for, oh, 3 months! 😛

I want to sell my DSLR camera

Yes it’s true, I am planning to sell off my trusty old 350D. It’s been with me through thick and thin, through a lot of adventure to a lot of trips. I blame it on “technological refresh” that forces me to upgrade my camera to catch up with my skill. I hate to admit it, but I have outgrown my camera. This is a good thing really. It means that I have learnt a lot from this camera, and I need to move on.

Yes, that also means that I want to upgrade my camera. I have not got my hands on any cameras yet, but the 40D looks very possible. Again, nothing is solid yet. I am just throwing news out, just to test the water. Anyway here is what the spec of my camera looks like:

Canon 350D with EF-S 18-55 kit lens with box, charger, original softwares, cables, manual, neck-strip, 2 original NB-2LH batteries and original Canon battery grip BG-E3. Perfect working condition 8/10. No more warranty. Would like to sell it as a set for RM1350. Free camera bag, 8 GB card and UV filter for kitlens. Price is negotiable. COD in Seri Kembangan.

I attach in here a very rough picture of the camera, for lack of a proper camera to take its own picture:

Please excuse the lousy photos. It was taken with my camera phone.

*Sigh …* what to do? Need the money for my kid’s milk powder and diapers…. 🙁

Update: The camera has been sold barely 24 hours after I have posted it online.

There, I’ve done it again. I have reapplied for P1 W1MAX, and I’m planning to keep it for good. I’ve had an earlier concern about the disconnection issue. Therefore I came up with a backup plan. I went to TM Point in Cyberjaya yesterday to downgrade my existing Streamyx package. I am currently subscribed to the Streamyx Unlimited 512 kbps package. The level of satisfaction with Streamyx leaves a lot to be desired. In the 2 years I had the Streamyx, I had to endure the constant disconnection and the excruciating (lack of) speed.

So it was with great relief that I had come to use the lowly Streamyx Combo, with the measily 384 kbps. That will be a fixed cost of RM60 per month, including the phone line. Currently I am paying for more than RM92 monthly just for the phone rental and the Streamyx. Besides, before they had this combo package, I have always wanted the cheapest available unlimited broadband. So the RM60 combo suits me just fine.

It took quite a while for the P1 to be activated, although the brochure clearly states that the application will be activated in an hour! Total bullshit! The reseller whom I got it from (in Jusco Equine, same as my previous experience) is to be blamed this time. When I applied from them at 6 pm yesterday, they said that they will only submit the application midnight! Awww ….. that means that I can’t surf right away! Why can’t they submit my application there and then? Some more they have taken RM100 from me already as the registration fee, something which was not required of me in my previous registration!

So I waited till midnight. But still no connection. The LED still kept on blinking at the orange light. I waited anxiously until about 1 am, but still no signal. So I went to sleep.

The next morning, I went to check, and the LED is now green! I immediately do a speed test:

Speed test for P1

Speed test for P1

I rest my case! That is waaayyyy over the speed that I bargained for (1.2 Mbps)! My area is Pusat Bandar Putra Permai, near Taman Equine in Seri Kembangan. So what are you still waiting for guys? Go get P1 while it’s still new and fast! If you’re afraid of the connection problem like I do, get the cheapest Streamyx Combo like I did as your backup, problem solved!

April Fool’s jokes are everywhere!

To be honest, I don’t really feel like cracking another joke now. But April’s Fool jokes are everywhere. Teresa Kok was rumoured to be getting married. Jokes about a car that can drive with the power of the wind and a world’s first flying hotel are abound. This goes to show just how easy it is for people to believe stuffs, no matter how unlikely they seem, with just a sprinkle of truth in it.

Not only are these jokes limited to smaller groups or individuals, well-established organizations are into it as well. Have a look at the “subliminal text” capability of its Google Words! Impressive I must say!

Subliminal Text? How cool is that?
