Childhood memories of KL

Posted: 1st May 2008 by Jacky Yong in Silly me

I had the weirdest memories of KL when I was small. To me, KL was my kampung. A place where I go to during my school holidays. I have lived in Kampar all my life, right up till after I graduated from university. I was born in Kampar Chinese Maternity Clinic, but spent my initial 7 years of my life in Mambang Diawan, my paternal grandparent’s place, barely 20 minutes away by bus. We only moved out to Kampar when my brother and I started schooling in Kampar. We still go back to Mambang Diawan every Chinese New Year, until my grandparents passed away back in year 2000. The most powerful car in Malaysia!

Posted: 29th April 2008 by Jacky Yong in Cars

….. perhaps even the world! I spotted this car in Tesco Puchong, back in July 2005. At that time, I still had my trusty old Canon A70 with me that goes wherever I go.

Resist the power of the dark side I must! The force is strong!

A dog: a commonly used derogatory term in Malaysia to refer to something foul, since a dog is considered haram in the Islamic world. We have plenty of these species in our Malaysian politics world. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m lost on an island!

Posted: 24th April 2008 by Jacky Yong in Silly me

I am stranded on an island. An unfamiliar place with no access to my sanity, where I am reduced to a walking-talking Frankenstein. I do nothing but work, sleep and eat. I have no life.

As Captain Shao Feng a.k.a. Chow Yun Fatt has aptly put it in Pirates of the Carribean, “Welcome to Singapore”!

Realiti – The TV series

Posted: 16th April 2008 by Jacky Yong in Movies and TV Shows

Have you heard of the TV series that was shown in 8TV a while back in 2006? I thought it was a very good show. I managed to download the complete series and watch them all during my wife’s 4 days confinement period in Tey’s Maternity and Gynecologist Centre.

WordPress 2.5 is here!

Posted: 5th April 2008 by Jacky Yong in Computers

Yay! I have successfully upgraded to WordPress 2.5! Nothing revolutionary from the outside, but on the inside, a lot have changed. The dashboard is much cleaner, much more slicker. The more important and most used stuffs (Write, Manage, Design, Comments) are grouped to the top left in bold, while the less used options (Settings, Plugins, Users) are in smaller fonts to the right. Takes some getting used to, but I’m sure this will become second nature to me soon. Other lesser obvious changes are more about the security of the engine. Now by default, all passwords are salted. When you upgrade your WordPress, be sure to copy over the latest wp-config-sample.php, copy over your settings over from the previous wp-config.php, and then write over to wp-config.php. This new file contains the key to your salted passwords, so make sure you have them!

All said, nothing is perfect. I have a plugin called Popularity Contest. After I have upgraded to WordPress 2.5, it encountered a fatal error and stopped working. Lucky thing for good ol’ Google. In no time I had fixed it and it’s back up and running!

Proton is finally bankrupt!

It’s finally over for these bunch of losers. Finally they are out-of-business, “gulung tikar”, bust, out of the picture! Say bye bye to the largest money swindling mechanism from Mahathir’s era! Yeah, I can’t be more happier at that news!

Advertlets Rawks!!

Posted: 29th March 2008 by Jacky Yong in Computers

Hey, this thing really works! Earlier I have written a review of Mudah.com.my after seeing a campaign by Advertlets to promote the site. They promised RM20 for the first 100 approved reviews, with terms and conditions that I can live with. And I was surprised when I checked my Advertlets account yesterday, they have credited RM20 into my account!
